Sure could visualize that squirmy cute pup.....great story. And now I know if my dogs ever have an itchy red bumpy type rash what it might be and to isolate them (and not sleep with them) until it's checked out.Gone2theDawgshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07138393137324890048noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6589783647802842771.post-67953421621872767502008-12-04T13:03:00.000-08:002008-12-04T13:03:00.000-08:00Yep, even the mere mention of tiny livestock can g...Yep, even the mere mention of tiny livestock can get me going sometimes. Sorry about everyone who is gratuitously itchy now! I promise you you can NOT catch mites over the internet!

I admit to a slight soft spot for dog lice, however... they have two advantages over the mites: One, they are species specific, so not transferrable to people. Two, I met a BF (of almost 12 years) over a louse infested dog - not quite as good a story as Dr. PK's cleavage tick (which reminds me of a story...!), but still.... maybe the little pests have their uses.

Still don't want 'em crawling on me. Love the visuals. hate the creepies.

On that note...I like to tell the story of one of my first dates with my boyfriend of five years:

He spied a tick crawling down my cleavage. Nice. It's not shocking we made it past that. After all, he's a vet, too.Dr. Patty Khulyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12248479554436421680noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6589783647802842771.post-14324142073154085862008-12-04T08:25:00.000-08:002008-12-04T08:25:00.000-08:00I get the same feeling when one of the kids at sch...I get the same feeling when one of the kids at school gets head lice. My head starts to itch. Luckily I have never caught anything from my critters. My pigs had mange once but they don't sleep under my chin so all was safe.
Another great story...Ms. Herriot. That's what I'm going to start calling you.goatgirlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05753367360714853700noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6589783647802842771.post-59259313853320736672008-12-03T22:30:00.000-08:002008-12-03T22:30:00.000-08:00Micro-mini creepy-crawlies."Livestock."Ick.Having ...Micro-mini creepy-crawlies.
"Livestock."

Ick.

Having children, I've done the lice dance a few times now - once for real when a cousin brought back some 'livestock' from an European trip, and a few (fortunately) non-productive scares from daycare. I also picked up some 'livestock' while on a submarine deployment - A shipmate was less than careful, and many of us wound up suffering for it.

Having gone though the wars once in the Nav (which was a major PITA) I went nuclear on the little bastiches when the European 'guests' moved in. Let me tell ya, nothing - NOTHING! - beats doing the job right, right away, the first time 'round! Yeah, it's a lot of work, but MUCH better than cross-reinefection!

My sympathies - Yet another reason I'm fairly certain I'd have made a poor vet - Zoonoses, or the threat of it, would've made me a mental wreck.MaskedManhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01847118110075039840noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6589783647802842771.post-85203469802513939962008-12-03T21:55:00.000-08:002008-12-03T21:55:00.000-08:00Oy...LOL ...now I am all itchy before going to bed...Oy...LOL ...now I am all itchy before going to bed. Your lucky in that the pets you treat are there already to see what the problem is, my clients just think their dogs need a bath! Most days I leave the shop itching I think "I" need a vet!
